The Monk Approach to the Table

  1. Connect to the shot.
  2. Land on the cue ball.
  3. Set and finish.
  4. See the shot, know the stroke and shoot the shot. ("MAP")

The Punch Stroke

Compare this to a boxer’s jab, flicking the stroke to stop the cue ball dead in its tracks.

The Follow Stroke

This rolls the cue ball along the slate to follow the object ball. There is no dramatic spin as found in a force follow. The Follow Stroke is soft and smooth.

The Draw Stroke

In this fabulous stroke the snapping through the cue ball imparts dramatic spin. Actually, there are four distinct draw strokes:

  • Follow-Through Draw
  • Snap-Back Draw
  • Snip-Draw
  • Bounce-Back Draw

Sometimes we need to execute one draw stroke over the other to win games. The difference between winning and losing is found in which draw stroke is used. Lessons in this book help you to master each draw stroke.

The Spin Stroke

This is a throwback to the old days of 14.1 pocket billiards. Once again, the difference between winning and losing is the choice of strokes. The Monk has seen situations where the Spin Stroke was the only way to position the cue ball for the winning shot. It is an important weapon to have in your fine arsenal.
