I received feedback from a league player recently. Several months ago he purchased a Joss cue/shaft upgraded with a Kamui tip and a Tiger Pro X shaft from me.

Initially, this league player felt more comfortable with the thicker, stock Joss shaft vs the Tiger shaft as the Joss shaft was the same thickness as his old cue. He commented that his new Joss cue had much less defection than his old Viking cue. The Joss shaft doesn't deflect as much as other production cues and, for a production cue, I have always felt that Joss makes a good shaft. Like other cue manufacturers, hovever, Joss uses a less-than-stellar tip, which is why I test all of the Joss cues I sell, and invariably wind up replacing the Triangle tip with a high-end, layered tip.

From time to time, he would try the Pro X shaft but didn't shoot as well with it. He didn't change his game to try to compensate for the Pro X shaft. Then he tried his friend's cue with another Pro X shaft and he shot well with it. Recently he started using his Pro X regularly, and now he is playing at a higher level. He says he's aiming much the same as his Joss and getting more action on the cue ball. My response was that Joss makes a very good shaft and with a premium tip installed, the stock Joss shaft plays very well, but Tiger's shaft is better yet on the Joss cue.
