Made in Japan, 10 layers of pig skin leather are glued together without diminishing porosity so that Kamui tips can hold more chalk. The greater porosity also allows the Kamui tip to more closely retain its original shape. Additionally, Kamui tips are humidity-resistant. Kamui claims that their tips will last "on average 20-30% longer than the average layered pool cue tip."
Kamui's processes are so specific that product development can take nine years before going to market.Kamui tips gained international exposure in October, 2007, when they were introduced at the BCA Super Billiards Expo in the United States. They were endorsed by Mika Immonen while winning the U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship in 2008 and 2009.
Kamui Clear Black tips come in four degrees of hardness: super soft, soft, medium and hard. Holding more chalk, a Kamui Clear Black tip develops higher friction, establishing more "grip" on, and less "squirt" of, the cue ball. More spin with less force yields accurate, long follow and draw shots with less cue ball speed. You can hit more center-side with the Kamui tip, limiting miscues.
